Nine pieces of fudge, and a box that finally fits

Client: Z. Cioccolato, San Francisco
Product: Custom 12-piece fudge
Design: Rize28 Design

The problem

9-piece gift box came from a catalog. It looked nice, but it was too deep. To fill the gap, the team packed in a paper tray or loose saltwater taffy, which didn't look right and cost more than an insert would.

The ribbon also came loose in transit, so the fudge moved around.

How we fixed it

  1. Asked first. Piece sizes (about 2" × 2", some 1.5" tall), box counts, shipping and timeline. We were on a call the same day.

  2. Showed two lids in 3D. A clear window lid or a fully printed paper lid, both priced delivered to his door.

Let the fudge decide. The fudge is cut by hand, so a tight plastic tray was out. A paper insert with a little extra room fit all nine. Thomas chose the windowless lid.

  3. Brought in a designer. Rize28 Design put nine San Francisco neighborhoods on the back, one per flavor, from the Marina to the Mission.

  4. Planned around tariffs. We timed shipping to land before the July tariff deadline.

The result

A lift-off lid box built around handmade fudge, with a divided insert so every piece stays put. A gold foil San Francisco skyline runs across the lid. No filler and no wasted space.
